Piedmont men’s tennis continues to push through challenges and gain wins during the hardest matches. “We are doing very well,” said Phillip Apple, science teacher, and tennis coach. “Currently we are 11-4.”

Piedmont has risen in the ranks of their conference. With huge victories over CATA, Cuthbertson, and Porter Ridge, they will finish third in the league. “That is saying something with powerhouse Marvin Ridge and Weddington in our conference,” said Apple.

With a team of 20, the tennis team continues to support each other. “They are willing to do whatever it takes to win for one another,” said Apple. “ It has already been one of the best seasons in recent years for sure.”

With such a successful year, the players have to work together. “My favorite part about being on the team is simply playing with my teammates,” said freshman Elias Broadway. “It’s fun to play against them since they have different playing styles.”

“Being on the tennis team has allowed me to improve my skills and see my fellow teammates improve as well,” said Broadway. “It’s a team where we can act laid back but strong when we’re playing.”

Piedmont’s tennis team has truly had a memorable season. “It is amazing how these young men progress and get better,” said Apple. “This team is fun to be with, and hard workers. The interaction with the players and watching them at the beginning of the season and comparing it to where they are at the end of the season is my favorite part about being the tennis coach.”
