Monday, February 13, Piedmont High School’s student government hosted a winter pep rally, where students piled into the gym to watch a battle of the classes and various performances from cheerleaders and teachers. Student government advisor Britney Forbis also shared the sweetheart court nominees for this year’s Sadie Hawkins Sweetheart Dance.

The Sweetheart Court nominees are as follows: Ada Mills, Greenlie Baucom, Skyleigh Anderson, Andre Darty, Bryson Love, and Miles Johnson for freshman; Avery Booth, Emma Cardona, Riley Kiser, Daniel Goodman, Ethan Harvey, and Miles Leaks for sophomores; Bella Blakeslee, Benel Quizhpi, Cameran Davis, Mattox Griffin, Owen Apple, and Will Herman for juniors; and Kristen Baucom, Samantha Cherry, Shaylee Smith, Chase Fesmire, Jake Evert, and Kyle Collins for seniors. Students will have the opportunity to vote on nominees during homeroom on Friday, February 24.

“It is a ‘sweetheart’ dance,” said Annette Harris, student government advisor. “Expect pastel, lots of sweet treats, and decor that looks similar to various Valentine-type candies!”

The dress code is cocktail and party dress attire. “Collared shirts [are] expected for guys and nice jeans/khaki pants. Ladies can wear appropriate dress wear,” said Harris. “We do not want to tarnish our Piedmont Panther reputation with clothing that is ‘clubbing’ attire. We are PIEDMONT! We want to spend our extra time being our personal best.”

The Sadie Hawkins Sweetheart dance has been in the making for some time now. “Summer Coble and I have been planning this dance since homecoming, and we knew that we absolutely wanted a cute candy-themed dance with lots of pastels and candy everywhere,” said student government president senior Reagan McManus. “We have put together a committee for food and organized a work day for the dance. We are planning on having lots of help from student government members and Piedmont staff to ensure that this dance runs smoothly! We have ordered tons of decorations and supplies and we’re very excited to see it all come together!”

DJ Kels will be in charge of music again this year. “Students can follow her on social media to make song requests,” said Harris, who recommends messaging Kels on Instagram for any requests.

Alright Panthers, prepare for the sugar rush and get your best dance moves ready!
